Making the Measurement

The readings are recorded with the one nearest horizontal written first as:

  horizontal power @ meridian; vertical power @  meridian

For example:

  43.00 @ 180; 44.00 @ 090

Sometimes the reading is given as:

  horizontal power/vertical power @ meridian

The difference in the two dioptric values is the corneal toricity (often referred to as the corneal astigmatism).
